How To Create Categories in WordPress

Today in this post i will guide you how to create & organize categories in WordPress. You can create parent and child categories making hierarchical arrangements to your post. Additionally, one can post can be post in multiple categories. This feature gives a lot of flexibility to display exactly the post you want. Just like the way to want them in Widgets, Menu bars or directly in your WordPress theme.



Now i will guide you step by step through picture that how you can create categories.



To create your first category in WordPress, You need to access the Posts -> Categories Page in the left side menu first.







On the left side of the WordPress windows you will see a tab which allows you to create categories. Just enter the category name, its slug and Add New Category button. To guide you we will make a new category and we will give it name Family Posts.









It’s Done, Your first category is ready. Now we will add the sub category to the Family Posts and give it name Nephews. Enter the name and slug just like we did with the first category. But now we select Family Posts as Primary or Parent Category for the new category. Now press Add New Category again to save the new sub-category or we can call it child category.





How to assign posts in categories:


As we have already creates the category structure, now you can add posts to categories. You can posts to categories in two ways. first way is to open a particular post or you can write a new post and place the check-box in the category which you want to assign it.









The second method is to bulk add posts to the category. To use the second method go to Posts -> All Posts. then select the posts which you want to add to a specific category. Now click the Bulk Actions and select Edit and in last press the Apply button.









As you do that, you have some options using them you can adjust for those posts. One of them is Categories section. You can select the category which you want to add to those posts to click the Update button.









Now, The post you have checked previously belongs to the category you have chooses.
